New Practices London Opening Night Party

By danielle

The Center for Architecture celebrated the launch of its avant-garde exhibition, “New Practices London,” which highlights the innovative work of 6 young firms. Although the air outside was slightly cooler than a typical August night, the opening party was certainly heating up the inside. With three balcony-style floors packed with chic design professionals and bars on each level serving refreshing modern martinis made with SKYY90, it’s safe to say that a good time was had by all. As always, the Design-Calendar girls had their cameras in hand to snap the evenings’ honorees (who were sporting a purple orchid) in action.

Andy Warhol meets Clockwork Orange and hits the dance floor at Studio 54! NYIGF design winners dfc hosted a fete extraordinaire on the rooftop of the Maritime Hotel to celebrate the premiere of Marco Ovando’s dfc-inspired short film. The party was ‘no holds barred’ as actors sporting wrestling masks mingled with fashionable bikini-clad ladies on the celluloid.

The panel also revealed the Color of the Year for 2008, and the winner is ………. YELLOW!!! Panelists included; Stephen Drucker, Editor-in-Chief, House Beautiful, Margaret Walch, Director of the Color Association of the US and Barbara Richardson, Color Marketing Studio Director for Glidden

Textiles Market Kick off Party!

If it weren’t for the fact that you could practically reach out and touch the Empire State Building, there was very little to remind you that you were on a penthouse roof deck in Manhattan. From the minute you got off the elevators at the New York Market Center, you were transported to Asian Jungles with swirling Indian textiles in bold fuchsias and rich purples. Tropical plants and even a stuffed zebra mingled with kimono clad ladies and exotic Indian saris worn by Miss India USA herself. It was a beautiful NYC summer evening filled with hints of luxe home textiles. We can’t wait to check out the show this coming week… Let us know your favorites!
