For the Love of Tile & Stone

By danielle

The snow is covering the NYC sidewalks, just like it did last week. But that didn’t stop us or the 400 other tile & stone fans from trucking it over to the A&D Building for a pre-Valentine’s Day celebration. Metropolitan Home Deputy Director, Design + News, Arlene Hirst gave us the low-down on the hot new trends in hard surfacing. She then introduced a great panel of architects, which included: Richard Kronick, principal of Gerner Kronick + Valcarcel Architects, Laurent Lisimachio, senior associate of planning and design at Gensler and Richard Mishaan of Richard Mishaan Interior Design and Home. After the seminar, which was sponsored by Ceramic Tiles of Italy, the A&D Building and Met Home, we had a chance to tour 5 floors of the building, visiting its numerous tile & stone showrooms and snacking on some delicious treats along the way.

Happy Chinese New Year from Tai Ping!

By danielle

The Lantern Festival came to Manhattan last week as Tai Ping hosted its annual Chinese New Year party in its showroom overlooking Union Square. The event has become a fixture on the design calendar, an opportunity for the design community to peruse Tai Ping’s newest collections of couture carpets and enjoy a glass of something bubbly and auspicious. This year, with the showroom awash in the rosy light from paper lanterns, Tai Ping toasted the Year of the Rat. Rats may get a bad rap here in NYC, but in Chinese tradition the rat is a bringer of prosperity and good luck—and who are we to argue? Until next year at Tai Ping!

The Design-Calendar Girls would like to thank Guest-Blogger Jessica Olshen, JBO Communications, Inc for this post and for the following fabulous photographs:

Happy 80th Anniversary – LBD Interior Textiles

By danielle

Despite the below zero wind chills in NYC, tons of top-notch guests showed up at 7W last night to celebrate LBD Interior Textile’s 80th anniversary. The evening also honored key home textile visionaries: Clodagh, Jessica McClintock, Charlotte Moss, Eileen West and Rebecca Moses, who signed books and mingled with attendees. What an honor to be in the same room with such a brilliant and inspirational cast of designing women! Cheers to LDB – we’re looking forward to the 100th anniversary celebration!
