Japan C – Cool, Cute, Clever and Creative

By danielle

Ok so we saw the amazing work of Murakami at the Brooklyn Museum last month, but now it’s time to see what his fellow countrymen are up to. Last night we went to the Felissimo Design House in NYC for the opening night of Japan C, an 11-week celebration of contemporary Japanese design and culture. The exhibition was curated by Conceptual Designer Tobias Wong and Design Consultant Josée LePage (pictured below with her adorable daughter). It features an exciting mix of 70 traditional and eclectic products: robots are alongside fine stationery, kawaii animé characters next to high-tech rice cookers promising the perfect bowl of rice. There were even skin creams made from fermented sake rice and ‘keitai’ (cell phone) straps – which we hear are all the rage in Japan these days.

Check out the photos below and then head to Felissimo to see for yourself.

Big in Japan, Cool in New York
The 11-week exhibition will be open at the Felissimo Design House until November 1.
