An Inside Look at Eero Saarinen’s Interiors

By danielle

Our friends at the New York Design Center are always on the go.  This June, they are joining forces with the Museum of the City of New York in an effort to raise money for the upcoming exhibition; Eero Saarinen: Shaping the Future.  This will be the third time the NYDC has worked with the Museum and they are excited to be a part of this insider’s look at Saarinen’s iconic interiors. The benefit event, which will be held on June 2 from 6:30-8:30PM, will include a panel discussion moderated by museum and exhibition curator Donald Albrecht.  Panelist’s include: Rosamond Fletcher, who will speak on the General Motors Technical Center outside Detroit; Alexandra Lange, who will discuss the Miller House in Columbus, Indiana; and Paul Makovsky, who will give his insight on the CBS Building in NYC.  The session will be followed by a cocktail reception.

It all leads up to the opening of the Eero Saarinen: Shaping the Future exhibit – which is scheduled to be on display at the Museum from November 10 – January 31, 2009.  It is the first retrospective to explore the work of one of the most prolific, unorthodox and controversail masters of 20th-century architecture.  The exhibit examines the architect’s wide-ranging career from the 1930s through the early 1960s.

We think it sounds pretty amazing and so does the program planned for June 2.  That said, we encourage you to show your support for the Museum and the outstanding exhibitions it continually offers to New Yorkers and tourists alike.  Tickets for the event start at $100, with all proceeds going directly to help make the installation of the exhibition possible.  To purchase, click here or call 917.492.3321.
