Designing Awareness

By kristin

If you’re stumped by the meaning of the term “social design,” you should swing by Brooklyn art space 0.00156 this summer. Until the end of August, they will be showing New York artist Christian Lopez Swafford’s Partition installation, which melds product design with social awareness. Using the context of a dining room, Swafford constructs a table, two benches, flatware and dinnerware to visually interpret the fragmented relationship between the United States and Mexico. According to Swafford, “Partition is not about designed objects, but instead is about objects to design a conversation.” For background information and to view his work, visit his website here.

Partition will be on display at 0.00156 (114 Smith St., Brooklyn, NY) until August 30th. Gallery hours are Sat. & Sun. 1-6pm
