Joseph on Wright at DWR

By danielle

This Thursday, Design Within Reach is hosting a presentation by award-winning architect and designer Wendy Evans Joseph, FAIA. Joseph is president of Wendy Evans Joseph Architecture (, which she founded in 1996. Among the firm’s many projects are the boutique hotel and restaurant in Frank Lloyd Wright’s Price Tower in Bartlesville, Oklahoma. The Inn at Price Tower has been recognized for its inventive use of design in a historic setting. Joseph’s firm also recently completed a series of exhibition designs at the Museum of Art and Design in New York and collaborated with the Solomon R. Guggenheim Museum on the exhibition installation for Frank Lloyd Wright: From Within Outward.

Joseph will speak about her design philosophy and her experience working on both the Price Tower and the Guggenheim exhibit.  It’s a great opportunity to see and hear what went into creating the multi-media exhibit,which brings together 64 of Wright’s projects, including privately commissioned residences, civic and government buildings, religious and performance spaces, as well as unrealized urban mega-structures.

The evening’s event will also celebrate the addition of the Frank Lloyd Wright Recliner and Sofa to DWR’s collection. These two pieces are the result of DWR’s collaboration with the Frank Lloyd Wright Foundation. Wright originally designed the Sofa and Recliner in 1912 for the William B. Greene House in Illinois. The Sofa and Recliner are available exclusively through Design Within Reach and are on display in the East 62nd Street Studio.

In addition to the intellectual stimulation, DWR will be serving up some gastronomical treats as well. Refreshments will be provided by the restaurant and a wine bar by Pudding Stones (, with wine specifically selected from their cellar.
