If you’re a New Yorker like me who is fascinated by Blade Runner and the potential of artificial intelligence, have we got the event for you! Tonight marks the inauguration of Pike Loop – the first architecture project in the U.S. to be built on site by an industrial robot. The installation was designed by Swiss architects Gramazio & Johler (Architecture and Digital Fabrication, ETH Zurich) and built over the past month by R-O-B, a mobile robotic digital fabrication unit housed in a shipping container on Pike Street (between Division St. and East Broadway). According to Gramazio and Kohler, “The accuracy, strength and speed of these robots allow them to fabricate architectural forms of unprecedented complexity and intricacy.” Hear them discuss the research, design and technology behind Pike Loop on-site tonight at 7:30 PM.
