Parsons The New School for Design, in collaboration with MIT Press, introduces the latest issue in the Alphabet City series. Each of these publications focuses on a single powerful theme, treated by writers and artists from their own unique perspectives. This vital resource, necessary for transportation, industry and agriculture not to mention human survival, is facing new threats from the nano (migration of pharma molecules into the ecosystem) to the macro (dwindling supplies due to ballooning population and climate changes.) This volume’s interdisciplinary concentration on water will prove to be both enlightening and provocative. A 24-hour “Infrastructure Slam” will feature teams of university students brainstorming solutions to issues which threaten local, regional and global infrastructures. The results of the slam will be exhibited at the Sheila C. Johnson Design Center through November 22.
