It’s no secret that New York City is the preeminent shopping destination during the holiday season. As if Madison Avenue wasn’t enough to satiate a shopper’s appetite, now even e-commerce sites such as eBay are trying to take a bite out of the Big Apple. With the city and the holidays being hectic enough on their own, we’ve rounded up a few of our favorite holiday pop-up shops around the city to give you a better sense of where to head and when.

Areaware will kick off its holiday pop-up shop, “Stop Shop,” with an opening party tonight! Justin Miller (DFA) and Jacques Renault (Runaway) will be spinning while organic wine by Yellow+Blue Wines will be flowing. Check out their whimsical products, fashion, accessories, jewelry and toys by a selection of New York and international designers.

Opening Party: Tuesday, Dec. 1st (6-9PM)
Shop Hours: Dec. 2nd – Jan. 2nd (closed Dec. 25-26 & Jan. 1)
Where: Port Authority Bus Terminal, 641 8th Ave. (@ 41st), Manhattan

Aviva Stanoff will host a Holiday Sale this weekend at their new studio and showroom in Dumbo. In addition to items such as hand-printed gift-wrap and decorative pillows, the design studio will also offer free shipping and gift-wrapping for purchases over $200. The kick-off party will be held on Friday, December 4.

When: Dec. 4th (4-8PM), Dec. 5th & 6th (11-5PM)

Holiday House 2009 will showcase the tabletop creations from twenty New York interior designers. Proceeds from the event will benefit Susan G. Komen For The Cure.

Where: 2 E. 63rd St., Manhattan

BoConcept is throwing a Holiday Sip n’ Shop for a Cause soiree at its Soho store benefiting the Humane Society of New York. You can sip on complimentary wine and snack on hors d’oeuvres while shopping for clothing, jewelry, accessories, art, and more all at discounted prices. Admission is free.

Brooklyn Flea presents “Gifted” – a holiday market featuring everything from edible delights to handcrafted jewelry and clothing.

When: Wed – Sun, December 2-6, 9-13; every day, December 16-24
Where: 20 E. 4th St. (@ Lafayette), Manhattan

Japan Brand: The Wishlist at Felissimo Design House features a collection of artisanal objects from 27 regions of Japan including paper goods, furniture, fashion, kitchen and decorative items. In addition to holiday shopping, they are offering classes on Japanese cooking, gift-wrapping, calligraphy and floral arrangements. Most of these items are on sale in the U.S. for the first time and almost all have limited availability. It’s open until December 24, but don’t wait until the last minute!

MAD Pop-Up Store

When: Mon – Fri (11-7PM), Sat – Sun (11-6PM)

The Future Perfect will be offering objet d’art for the table at their pop-up shop in the Chelsea Market for a limited time.
When: Now until Jan. 31st
Where: 425 W. 15th St. (btw. 9th & 10th Ave.), Manhattan

Wired Magazine’s annual holiday pop-up shop is now open in the Meatpacking District, with a design assist from Moby, a gaming area handpicked by Tony Hawk and a green section curated by Adrian Grenier. The pop-up shop will let visitors get their hands on 150 items chosen by the magazine’s editors including electronics, home goods, and toys.
