In addition to the Gift Fair at Javits, we also stopped over at 7 W New York this month for the Gift and Home Textiles Market and NYC Baby & Kids Fair, where we took advantage of the building’s top-of-the-line programming and product-filled showrooms boasting the latest trends in gift, baby & kids and beyond.

Great gift items we came across were gorgeously packaged teas from New York-based The Tea Set who set up shop in the Richard Cohen Collection suite. The organic, fair trade tea we sampled truly hit the spot. Another favorite was the quirky and functional Brushing Beauty line of dish scrubbers from Boston Warehouse, one of which is pink and benefits Susan G. Komen for the Cure. Also on our radar: Trina Turk pillows in Peking Handicraft offered a refreshing pop of color. We also noticed retro/nostalgia was all the rage with Coca Cola tableware at Zrike and aprons accented with 1950’s era ad imagery at Peking Handicraft. An eco-friendly trend was exemplified in new additions to Zak’s popular Confetti line of recycled melamine and in the post-consumer recycled fashion accessories, funky tabletop pieces and home décor from Italian design company Regenesi.  The company’s eco-chic wares were being displayed among Gallery On Six’s trove of treasures.

The market was chock full of networking opportunities and helpful keynotes A highlight: catching up with Pop-Up Shop guru and CEO of PopUpInsider Christina Norsig and real estate development expert Eric Michael Anton. The duo gave an energetic and incredibly informative talk about the hot trend of “Pop-Up Shop Retailing.” Afterwards, former FIT grad Norsig mixed and mingled with FIT students in the special Pop-Up shop gallery composed of clever 7 W product vignettes which harnessed the student’s’ visual merchandising and marketing skills.

The market also offered a Retailer Roundtable panel discussion, which gave storeowners rare insight into the competition, with Retailer Excellence nominees sharing their tips and tricks for running a successful retail outlet. We also toured the Baby & Kids Fair on the 11th floor. See below for more some photographic highlights from the week at 7 W New York including the Baby & Kids Fair.
