Architecture, communication, technology and fashion are coming together for a green cause. The New School is one of 20 collegiate teams that will participate in The Solar Decathlon put on by the US Department of Energy in Washington D.C. The goal of this eco-friendly competition is to produce models of solar-powered homes for the residents of Washington D.C. You can get a chance to view these real-life sustainable houses next October on the National Mall where they will be displayed. Empowerhouse, the name of the New School team is based off of a mutual understanding in the importance of sustainable design and is bringing together students from three of The New School’s diverse colleges (Parsons New School for Design, Milano New School of Management and Stevens Institute of Technology). So start planning your trip to DC now and come next October reserve your spot on the lawn to catch a glimpse into the homes of our future.
