House Beautiful’s Kitchen of the Year – Where design and food meet.

One of the best things about being in New York City over the summer is the plentitude of amazing events that are free and open to the public. Being a big foodie and design-lover, one event that I’m absolutely titillating with excitement about is Kitchen of the Year. Between July 18 – 22, chef Tyler Florence’s California-inspired indoor-outdoor kitchen will turn Rockefeller Plaza into the city’s summer hotspot with tours, tastings, and live demonstrations. Porchetta to hit my taste buds with a flavor explosion? Yes, please! Then, beginning August 1st, the kitchen will transform into Bar 30, serving cocktails and snacks to make the most sweltering month of the year that much cooler. Piña Colada? I’ll take that, too. As Tyler says, it’s going to be the party of the year in the kitchen of the year.

Our friends at House Beautiful created a sneak peak video of the beautifully composed kitchen and all the delicious eats we have to look forward to. Tyler Florence’s design takes components that were a hit in past kitchens and adds his own flair to them; the fireplace adds a homey, comfortable feel to the kitchen that is built big and spacious to entertain as many people as possible. This developed from the core concept driving the design: a flowing connection between the indoor and outdoor spaces, the home and the city. Not only is this perfect for New York’s indecisive weather, it also transforms Rockefeller Plaza into a slice of west coast chill, where the summertime and the livin’s easy feeling lasts all year long. So close your eyes and take off your shoes as you sip your pinot grigio in one of the comfortable seats furnishing the 1,500 sq. ft. stone patio, built with a fully-equipped outdoor kitchen.

If you’re as excited as I am, put on some sunscreen before you head out to work – you won’t need to go to Rockaway to catch a breeze this summer.
