Weddings may bring a tear to our eye but ceremonies that combine architecture, marriage equality and free cupcakes make us straight up giddy! Celebrating last month’s historic legislation legalizing same-sex marriage in New York, our buddies at Architizer have teamed up with the wedding experts at The Knot to bring you the city’s first pop up chapel!

After running a rapid-fire competition, they’ve just announced the winners, Z-A Studio and ICRAVE, whose designs will be used in a day-long ceremony this Saturday, July 30! Each architecture firm will receive $3,000 to build the pop-up chapel of their dreams at Merchants’ Gate in Central Park, New York. Here’s a peek at each design:

Z-A Studio’s “KISS” chapel is a tulip-like structure with recycled honeycomb cardboard walls and a plywood base. According to the architects, the union of the two forms creates “a stable entity, that is more than the sum of its parts.” Amen!

ICRAVE’s Pop Up Chapel is an effervescent cascade of hanging ribbons that provide a colorful backdrop to the day’s proceedings. After the ceremonies are over, the ribbons will even be handed out to the married couples as keepsakes!

Architizer is providing the chapel. The Knot is providing the photographer, the officiant and the cupcakes. Now all they need are the couples!
