Fashion Takes Over NYC

By Lauren Hill

Everyone was dressed in their Sunday best, or Thursday best if we’re talking about last night’s much anticipated Fashion’s Night Out. For the third year in a row, over 1000 retailers in the city opened their doors and popped champagne to kick off New York Fashion Week.  This shopping party began in 2009 by Vogue editor-in-chief Anna Wintour to lure fashionistas into the stores during the recession and since, has become a global phenomenon.  Last night, designers and consumers mingled together over cosmos and hors d’oeuvres to share the latest design trends for the upcoming season. Food trucks, DJs, and stilettos flooded the streets of the Meatpacking district.  At Hugo Boss, Diane Von Furstenberg and Stella McCartney fans waited in long lines at a chance to get a peak at their favorite stars and designers.

Even with all of the music, cocktails and flashing lights, the spotlight was still on what everyone around town was wearing!  With no rules and lots of creativity, the star-studded parties were filled with outrageous outfits reminding us that fashion has no limits.  The night was a success: swag from the coolest designers, a sneak peak at the fall’s latest fashion trends and a new appreciation for individual style.

Check back to Design-Calendar next week for more on FNO from our blogger Alexandra. She was on the SoHo scene and enjoyed some “sartorial illumination” at FLOS
