Building Brooklyn Awards

Brooklyn’s most influential figures in real estate and development flocked to The Liberty Warehouse in Red Hook last Thursday to celebrate the borough’s most exciting building projects. Organized by the Brooklyn Chamber of Commerce and its Real Estate & Development Committee, the 2012 Building Brooklyn Awards recognized 12 recently completed new and renovation construction projects – from the beautifully restored Jane’s Carousel in Brooklyn Bridge Park to the innovative and indie Dekalb Market.
Here’s a look at the 2012 winners, as selected by an independent, 11-member panel of Brooklyn-based architects, planners, economic development experts and city officials:
Civic/Institutional: BLDG 92
Community Development: Red Hook Initiative
Education: Medgar Evers College Academic Building I
National Grid Award for Energy Efficiency: Dumont Green
Recreational Facility: Jane’s Carousel
Open Space: Restoration Plaza
Retail: Dekalb Market
Residential – Single Family: Atrium House
Residential – Affordable: Liberty Apartments
Residential – Supportive Housing: 97 Crooke Avenue
Residential – Low-Rise: Third + Bond
Residential – Multi: 220 Water Street
The Building Brooklyn Awards also honored Michell de la Uz, Executive Director of Fifth Avenue Committee, and David Von Spreckelsen, Division President at Toll Brothers, City Living, for their efforts to enhance the business conditions and economic climate of Brooklyn.
