Hope everyone is getting their vacations in this month cause the September trade show season is heating up! In the coming weeks, we will be highlighting some of our favorite fairs including the London Design Festival (Sept 14-23) & 100% Design (Sept 19-22) and Cersaie (Sept 25-29) to name a few.

We’re starting with IIDEX as registration for the 2012 fair opens today. Canada’s National Design + Architecture Expo & Conference will be held from September 20-21 at the Direct Energy Centre in Toronto.  The fair features over 350 exhibitors and offers over 80 CEU accredited seminars and tours as part of the Conference Program.

For those Marimekko fans like me, be sure to add the exhibition Marimekko, With Love to your list of things to do. The Textile Museum of Canada is presenting a retrospective look at the company’s origins and its role in shaping a new approach to living through fashion and design. The Finnish brand has close ties to Toronto. In fact, the groundbreaking Toronto design studio Karelia was the first to introduce Marimekko to international audiences. Look for an impressive selection from Karelia’s collections and archives in the Textile Design Expo at IIDEX.

This year’s IIDEX International Pavilion is designed by Milan/Toronto Architects Enrico Cleva and Sara Viarengo. The two story scaffolding structure provided by leading Italian manufacturer Metalsistem will showcase a diverse cross section of international manufacturers with both a mix of products and photos from emerging and leading European companies.

Other special features include the National Urban Design Awards (September 21 at 3:30PM) and the fifth anniversary of Candela with a brand new collection of inspiring and innovative lighting designs created by professional artists and designers exploring electric light as an artistic medium.
