If you haven’t picked up your Better Homes & Gardens September Stylemaker issue yet, we suggest you grab it today for your weekend enjoyment. It is filled with design ideas from tastemakers like Kim Myles, interior decorator, TV host, HGTV Design Star and founder of Global Glam Collection of stencils; Suzanne McGrath, designer & author of Good Bones Great Pieces: The Seven Essential Pieces that Will Carry You Through a Lifetime ¬†and more. Thanks to our friends at BH&G (thanks Melissa!), we had the honor of meeting these delightful designers at an intimate blogger social and live Q&A. The session focused on home design and style making and featured a fantastic group of panelists including: Maxwell Gillingham-Ryan, Apartment Therapy; Oma Blaise Ford, BH&G; Kim Myles, Global Glam and Suzanne McGrath, Good Bones. It was moderated by stylist, editor & writer, Stacy Kunstel.

We feverishly tweeted away some of their trade secrets and advice. My favorite tip – “Be willing to make mistakes.” (thanks Maxwell) cause “Some of the best mistakes turn out to be happy accidents (encouraging words, Kim!)”

The event was held at Story NYC, a super cool retail shop founded by Rachel Shectman. Located on the West Side of Manhattan (144 10th Ave @ 19th St), it has the point of view of a magazine, changes like a gallery and sells things like a store. The current “story” has a NY state of mind. They NY-based cultural discovery website Cool Hunting joined as the first ever co-curator, taking a look at NY as the center of innovation in food, art and culture. Stay tuned as the next story comes to life on September 6.
