We might have avoided the deluge at back-to-school sales that happen every September, but that doesn’t mean that school isn’t back in session! The New School, including Parsons the New School for Design and the Vera List Center for Art and Politics, has just announced fresh and interesting art and design programming that is open to the public this fall. So whether you’re still in school or don’t ever want to think about going back, you’re sure to enjoy these engaging lectures and events.

You can access a full calendar of events by clicking here, but here are a few highlights:

+ Spontaneous Interventions: The U.S. Pavilion at the Venice Biennale | On October 25th, 6:00 PM – 7:30 PM, spend an evening with the curators and exhibition designers of the critically acclaimed U.S. Pavilion at the Venice Biennale, which featured projects characterized by their interest in collaboration, in serving the collective needs of a community, and in improving the literal common ground—public space. The presenters at the event are a few of our good friends: Cathy Lang Ho and Anne Gulney, Curatorial Team from the Institute for Urban Design; Lauren Crahan and John Hartmann, Exhibition Designers from Freecell Design and Fabrication, and Parsons Adjunct Faculty; and Quilian Riano, Principal at DSGN AGNC and Parsons Adjunct Faculty. The event will be followed by a workshop led by Rama Chorpash, Director of the BFA Product Design at Parsons, and Miguel Robles Duran, Director of the MFA Urban Design at Parsons.

+ Urban Colloquium: Danya Sherman: The High Line from Behind the Scenes | The School of Design Strategies at Parsons presents the third season of their Urban Colloquium, which focuses on the creative, radical, and subversive ways in which cities are truly shaped, by whom, and for what purposes. Perfect for urbanists and urbanites alike, the public conversation on Thursday, November 15th at 7:00 PM will feature Danya Sherman, Deputy Director of Programs & Education at Friends of the High Line. Other featured speakers in the Urban Colloquium series include Vera Tangari, Paul White/Transportation Alternatives, and Brenda Rosen/Common Ground.

+ Art, Environment, Action! | An initiative of the Sheila C. Johnson Design Center (SJDC) at Parsons, this four-month long creative laboratory brings together a diverse cross-section of artists, designers, architects, dancers, chefs, and scientists, producing a continually transforming gallery and dynamic programming that relies on public participation. Designed as a “toy box” of possibilities, opportunities for engagement with the program include workshops, off-site explorations, walks, and dialogues whose artifacts will seed subsequent dialogue and interaction in the gallery. These programs are ongoing until Saturday, December 15th. More details can be found on the SJDC website.

Fall programming at The New School also includes the AMT Visiting Artist Lecture Series, Open House New York, a book launch for AZIZ + CUCHER: SOME PEOPLE, and many more events, exhibits, and talks.
