Valitalia Makes “Made In Italy” Accessible

Last week Design-Calendar attended the official launch of the brand-new Italian home furnishings site, Valitalia, at a press luncheon at the Italian Trade Commission. And were we in for a treat: Friulian furnishings paired with delicacies by Friulian native and “Masterchef” winner Luca Manfè (who was in attendance) and regional wine.

If you drew a Valitalia Venn diagram, it would comprise three circles: lovers of Italian design and craftsmanship, supporters of small, regional producers and family-owned businesses, and consumers in search of high quality furnishings/accessories at an affordable price. The e-commerce platform combines all these factors in the brand-new home furnishings site:  What else makes it unique? Well, it’s a cooperative founded by three design professionals, Andrea Varutti, Colleen Beckett and Francesco Benvenuto, Unindustria Pordenone (the Industrial Union of Pordenone, member of Confindustria Italy) and 35 manufacturer-stakeholders from the Fruili district in Italy (near Venice). These businesses have produced for the big Italian brands, but have lacked the ability to distribute their own products widely—till now. The partners share a vested-interest and a passion for well-designed, timeless furnishings and have come together to bring the history, quality, culture and craftsmanship of Friuli to North America.

The pickings are plentiful. Valitalia’s comprehensive catalog offers just about everything for the home and it notably sells direct to the consumer at accessible prices. Shoppers can also take advantage of the brand’s rewards program and receive 3% credit on every purchase.

Shipping will be faster, too. While everything is made in Italy, most items will be stocked in Valitalia’s New Jersey warehouse and ready to go. Stocked furniture will be delivered in 1-2 weeks, while special orders will arrive in 6-9 weeks in most Metropolitan areas.

Smaller items and accessories will arrive in 3-9 business days. As Valitalia’s tagline affirms, “We bring Italy home”—and it will to yours, affordably and fast.

New Yorkers: Valitalia will stage a Pop-Up Shop on December 9-15 at 20 Greene Street in Soho.
