If you love art and design, than there’s no better time to be in New York City! Taking place from May 14 to 17, the fourth edition of Frieze New York will return to Randall’s Island Park and join the NYCxDESIGN program of events.

Over the four days, more than 190 art dealers from all around the world will exhibit their works in one of the world’s leading contemporary art fairs.

Nearly 200 contemporary galleries will participate, 30% of which are based in New York. Some of our favorites include: the Pace Gallery, which is planning a presentation of new drawings by Richard Tuttle; the Lehmann Maupin Gallery, who will show works from several artists and the Andrea Rosen Gallery, in which the artist Michael St. John is curating a show titled “My Way”.

The fair will be divided in two main parts – “Focus” and “Frame”. In the “Focus” section, galleries have been selected on the basis of a proposed solo stand or curated project, specifically conceived for the fair. Those participating in Focus will have opened in or after 2003 and debut works not previously seen within an art fair context. “Frame” is a section dedicated to galleries established less than eight years ago. Galleries have been selected on the basis of a proposed solo presentation. Frame allows visitors and collectors to see work by artists who have not previously benefitted from an international platform to show their work.

The fair will once again host the Frieze Talks, a daily program of keynote lectures and discussions, including a talk-show type panel hosted by the irreverent comedian Casey Jane Ellison featuring writer Karley Sciortino and artist Leilah Weinraub. The Frieze Education Program will give access high school students and children from underserved communities across all five boroughs access to arts programs, with a combination of workshops and tours for school groups. Participants leading the workshops include artists Urs Fischer and Julie Mehretu, Triple Canopy, Cleopatra’s the New York City Department of Cultural Affairs (DCLA) and Material for the Arts (MFTA). Frieze Sounds is programmed and curated by Cecilia Alemani and presented with BMW. This year’s program brings together three artists that work in the space between sound, installation and performance. The three commissions all explore avant-garde composition, incorporating archive elements that use collage as a starting point. Frieze Sounds will be premiered in the VIP cars at Frieze New York. The works will also be accessible via a listening station inside the fair and streamed online at friezeprojectsny.org.
