The Jacob K. Javits Convention Center, New York, NY – This November, the Jacob K. Javits Convention Center opened its many glass doors for its annual Boutique Design New York trade fair (BDNY). Now in its seventh year of success, over 7,000 interior designers, architects, purchasing executives and hospitality owners enjoyed the gusto and energy of the trade fair which boasted a focused selection of statement-making design products for hotels, restaurants, spas and casinos. The stunning visual spaces created by the exhibitors within the main arena staged a stimulating conversation between manufacturers and industry visionaries.

Each space solicited contemplation of an array of design elements, coming together effortlessly in a remarkable collaboration between major design firms and exhibiting products. Through an immense application of colors in fabrics coupled with an intelligent use of lighting, product sponsors, and designers conjured an airy grace. A special theme that we particularly enjoyed was the shimmery gold hues as displayed in a variety of products on display in the booths. Delightful variations of gold were peppered across the show floor and took shape in mirrors, sconces, stylish faucets, and more. We’ve rounded up a few of our favorite glimmering, gilded design pieces.

Whether in the design community or beyond, we think it is critical to support the many organizations that are doing so much good in our communities. Next week, one such organization, DIFFA (Design Industries Foundation Fighting AIDS), is hosting a cocktail reception to announce its 2016 grantees. Representatives from Planned Parenthood of NYC, Alpha Workshops, God’s Love We Deliver, and 23 other organizations dedicated to the fight against HIV/AIDS will gather at the event to formally accept the grants.

For two straight days, starting November 1st, a soft buzz filled the seventh floor of the prestigious Museum of Arts and Design (New York City) as a steady flow of industry professionals, design enthusiasts and members of the public patiently waited to step inside one of two illuminated enclosures.

Visitors slipped white paper booties over their shoes in eager preparation for this unique presentation. Once seated inside the pristine enclosures, they saw the striking display of OLED panels by Kaneka Corporation, a leading technology-driven chemical manufacturer headquartered in Japan. In a matter of moments, the panels awashed the space in a stunningly smooth, soft light. Visitors remained fixated on the display in anticipation of its playful shifts in brightness which featured a wide spectrum of white light.

This engaging exhibition showcased the unique capabilities of Kaneka OLED technology through the imaginative lens of renowned Japanese lighting designer, Shozo Toyohisa (pictured below).

OLED Technology produces beautiful, diffuse lighting. Toyohisa, the experienced lighting designer with a background in industrial design, envisioned many applications for OLED which offers ease of use, precise color consistency and flexibility. Whether used in displays for retail or hospitality settings, or as fixtures in residential interiors, OLED is an eco-friendly lighting choice.

For those who were unable to experience OLED Technology in person, either at the opening party on November 1st or during public visiting hours on November 2nd, they can expect additional collections of products by Kaneka OLED, including the official launch of Kaneka Luce set for release in early 2017.
